From the moment we are born, we live in a finite world. It consists of day and
night, first and last, young and old, beginning and end, and the list goes on. The
dictionary defines infinite, as having no limits or boundaries in time or space, or
extent or magnitude; this is God's world. Finite, on the other hand, is defined as
bounded or limited in magnitude, or temporal extent;. this is our world.
Through studying the Psalms, I began to look closely at the prayers of David. He
prayed with a repentant heart, but he always gave praise and honor to God. He
was aware of the infinite power that surrounds God. David lingered in the shadow
of God's throne through prayer and praise. The Psalms are filled with beautiful
words of worship and examples of praise. God is spirit and when we praise and
worhip Him, we are spirit. This allows a blending of the two worlds; the infinite
and the finite. This is confirmed in John 4:24. God is a Spirit, and they that worship
Him, must worship Him in spirit and truth.
Where else can we have an infinite encounter? There is no other place; only in the
presence of God. Heaven is filled with God's infinite wisdom and understanding. When
we worship God, we dwell in His secret place. Time spent with Him increases our
ability to rise above this finite world. If we fail to pray, we keep our spirit grounded.
The more we pray and praise God, the less finite our spirit becomes. Repentance and
praise, lessen the hold of this world; combined, they allow us to linger in God's world.
Psalm 29:2, Give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name; worship the Lord
in the beauty of holiness. Our world is finite, but we can bridge the gap through
worship; the journey from our world to God's becomes an easy transition.
We have the privilege of staying in God's presence for as long as we choose. God
doesn't set any limitations on the amount of time we spend with Him. The only limitations
are the ones we choose to set. No one is going to sound a buzzer and tell us that our
time with God is up. Remember, never too busy, or too tired, to spend time in prayer
and worship.
In I Thessalonians 5:16&17, it simply says, Rejoice evermore. Pray without
ceasing. God wants to have a closeness with each of us. He wants us to spend
time with Him, in His infinite world. He has given us a great and powerful gift; access
to His throne. Psalm 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High,
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Father, let my spirit soar, to the place you call Your own;
Let me linger there, in the shadow of Your throne.
